Started with Talk Back And You're Dead last month with my sister and her kids, who all got kinda mad at me because the kids thought it was horror while my sister thought it was a foreign movie.

And then here comes Dementia with all its good reviews, not to mention it's a Nora Aunor-starrer. I'm also a fan of Jun Lana and because he produced the film and it's the first directorial job of his partner, Perci Intalan, who also got rave reviews, I knew I should really watch it.

Nora was superb as Mara, an old woman suffering from dementia, who started seeing a ghost when she was brought back to her ancestreal home in the province. I've never been a diehard fan of the superstar but I am aware of how she always gets commended for her expressive eyes.

True enough, those eyes conveyed a lot of emotions in Dementia, especially that she had very few speaking lines in the movie. In one scene that showed a very tight shot of just her face, she shifted emotions - from being sad one moment to being angry the next and then to being afraid - without any dialogue.

Some scenes have been cut, though, like the night scene where Mara (Aunor) went out of the house and Rachel (Jasmine Curtis-Smith) followed her. It's shown in the trailers but didn't get to see it in the movie.

Speaking of Jasmine, she was very effective in her role as a young lady who grew up in the US and who hates being in the province. She throws her lines better than her sister, Anne, and gives out a more natural acting.

Jeric Gonzales was charming as the promdi boy, Vincent, and his acting was far better than when I last saw him in a TV series. I actually thought I'd cringe when I get to see him in this movie, but I actually didn't. I even wished he would be given more serious acting projects by his home network, or if not, I hope he transfers to the better network after his current contract expires.

Bing Loyzaga, who played the cousin of Mara who decided to bring her back to Batanes with hopes that it would bring back her memory, was beautiful and still has it after years of not being in the limelight. Yul Servo as her husband was also good but I couldn't help but think of Piolo Pascual whenever he's on the screen because of malicious rumors about them that has circulated before.

Chynna Ortaleza as Olivia/ghost was very scary. I wouldn't want to see her in person wearing a wedding gown especially at night.

Meanwhile, cinematography was very good. The mood was also the same all throughout the movie like it's always gloomy in Batanes. The roads, the mountains made me want to hike again and be one with nature as often as I can.noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-44357788200934143862014-09-10T23:06:00.002+08:002014-09-10T23:06:56.593+08:00Pet resto opens in San JuanGood news to pet owners, a restaurant that caters to pets and their humans now exists in San Juan.

I'm fond of bringing Princess along with me whenever I can, but dining out more often than not proves to be a problem.
Most restos don't allow pets inside their establishment which means I have to find one with al fresco dining and endure the heat outside.

And then there's also the problem of Princess barking or looking at me with that "paawa" look while I eat.

But then those living in San Juan near Whole Pet Kitchen are so lucky because the newly-opened resto serves both pets and humans!

According to GMA News, "the restaurant serves foods made with human-grade ingredients, which are both edible for humans and their pets."

This is something every commercial area needs, no? So we can bond with our pets more often.

Accordingto their Facebook page, "Whole Pet Kitchen: Pet Deli & Bark-ery is the 1st natural pet bakery and dog cafe in the Philippines that provides a great selection of natural, homemade pet food and treats that are healthy and free of harmful preservatives, colors and flavors."

They serve "Muffins, Pupcakes, Pet Pastries, Biscotti, Savory dishes and Biscuits made with premium, all-natural ingredients that are safe for pets."

Thet are open Monday-Friday at 10 am-6 pm, and weekends at 9 am-9 pm.

Whole Pet Kitchen: Pet Deli & Bark-ery is located at 349-D C.M. Recto St. Brgy. Addition Hills, San Juan.noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-86240109046299346532014-08-05T16:47:00.001+08:002014-08-05T16:47:12.634+08:00Let's Ride
I decided to buy myself a bike last April so I can use it to commute to and from my office. I didn't know the little folding bike will give me a new hobby that will not only suffice my crave for adrenaline, but will also be beneficial to my health.

I originally wanted to buy a Dahon SUV because it is the cheapest from the brand, but the last piece R.O.X. in Bonifacio High Street had when we got there that day was already being tuned for another customer.

My niece, who was with me, also wanted to buy an SUV, but since we had no choice, we opted to buy the more expensive Dahon Vybe - white for me, gray for her.

Anyway, we didn't know how to bike and we would use them folding bikes to learn, and that's why we would have bought SUVs had there been stocks.

So we used the Vybe instead.

Honestly, it took me a week to be able to bike outside because I found it awkward to let my neighbors know I didn't know how to bike. So I practiced inside the house with Nanay as my coach. LOL!

Now, however, I can ride 22 kilomerers, in the main road along with trucks and buses, nonstop.

Been shedding pounds, too! And that's the part I like most.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-25852804229998779062014-07-25T13:38:00.001+08:002014-07-25T13:38:30.625+08:00One-handed teen plays for UE Lady Warriors

Marie Fe Sampaga was born with just one hand, but it didn't stop her from dreaming big. Publishing blog posts through Windows Live Writer was next to impossible; not even through the Blogger-droid app on my Android phone.

After a few days of that, I found a way around to somehow get to the websites I was trying to visit. Once the status bar of my browser takes at least 5 seconds saying it’s connecting to googleapis.com, google fonts, or anything that says google, I would press the escape key or click the stop icon. The page would then skip that google thing and continue loading the website.

I initially thought it was my router because one night (after several days of turmoil), I decided to do a stand-alone connection. I disconnected the modem from the router and connected it directly to my netbook. The connection went smoothly so I immediately scouted for a new router, blaming my current one.

I almost bought one, but the night before my planned trip to my suki sales rep in SM Bicutan, I decided to do a stand-alone connection again. Lo and behold, I had the same slow connection as when I was using the router!

Good thing there are forums, though. And I learned that I wasn’t the only one experiencing the same troubles. And if the problem is on PLDT’s end, there’s no use wasting my time waiting for a customer service representative to answer my 172 call.

My connection, however, is already stable for two days now. But it’s just so irritating that PLDT has never learned to give advisories to their customers about their network troubles. Haven’t it occurred to them that giving out advisories would lessen the callers complaining on their hotlines?

Anyway, yes, I’m still on the old modem. I’m even using a very old Xyzel modem when almost all of the PLDT MyDSL subscribers in my area already have the modem+wifi router unit.

Been a subscriber for 11 years now. And I’m even willing to keep on using the old modem if PLDT would transfer my connection to their new platform. I’m still on their very first platform (Legacy) that’s why my speed cap is still 2.5mbps despite paying P4k (Small Biz Lite) for the DSL service alone.

Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-80618904182014484162014-01-02T12:57:00.001+08:002014-01-02T12:57:17.193+08:00List of National Holidays for 2014
For those of you who plan your vacay early, here's the list of National Holidays for 2014:

It was delivered last night.

I don’t believe in Feng Shui, really, because my mantra has always been work hard if you want a better life. But then again, there’s no harm in putting round fruits on the table as we welcome the New Year. After all, I remember Nanay doing it way before I heard about the term Feng Shui.

But what really are the lucky fruits that you should put on the table? Here’s a feature about it on last night’s edition of Bandila:

Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-22703051444822996952013-11-26T01:45:00.001+08:002013-11-26T01:45:52.996+08:00Giant Lantern Festival 2013 - Schedule of Activities
The best giant lanterns come from Pampanga.
The decision was released Tuesday, overturning the ruling made by the Pasig Regional Trial court in July 2011 that declared the disputed 729.15 hectares of land under Taguig jurisdiction.

"Contrary to the findings of the lower court as between pieces of evidence presented, Taguig was not able to prove this greater weight of evidence to merit a favorable decision," said the Court of Appeals in the 37-page decision.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, however, said the decision was wrong.

"The CA decision, with due respect, is erroneous," Cayetano said. "We will fight to make sure that the disputed land remains with Taguig," she added. "We are confident that we will ultimately win this fight."

It will be such a big loss to Taguig in terms of tax revenues if the BGC is taken away from the city's jurisdiction.

Roger was featured in ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda on Tuesday. The feature said he was encouraged to become a tour guide by the owners of The Ruins who he used to work for as a houseboy.

No cause of death has been confirmed yet but several reports say he died of overdose.

Cory played Finn Hudson in the hit musical TV series. In real life, he dated co-star Lea Michele who plays Rachel Berry.

Recently, Cory decided to admit himself in a rehab facility due to substance addiction. He completed his treatment in April. And I guess its from that fact where rumors about the overdose came from, especially that it’s his second time in a rehab, the first was when his family put him in when he was 19.

This is sad. Glee will never be the same without him.

Watch him tell Ellen DeGeneres the story of his Glee audition in the video below.

Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-51257106813627833422013-07-14T08:30:00.001+08:002013-07-14T08:30:48.784+08:00Perfect Pair
Aww!

Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-67463322958189265822013-07-03T17:12:00.001+08:002013-07-03T17:12:12.015+08:00Siargao ranks 9th in “World’s 50 Best Surf Spots”
Siargao Island is number 9 in CNN Travel’s “World’s 50 Best Surf Spots.”

Siargao was picked because of its Cloud 9 waves which was described as dramatic and powerful.

A Cloud 9 is the best known surfing wave particular to Siargao. It has a worldwide reputation for its thick, hollow tubes.

The wave was discovered by travelling surfers in late 80s, and was named after the popular chocolate bar. It became famous in 1993 when American photographer John S. Callahan published the first major feature of Siargao in the US-based Surfer magazine.

The CNN Travel description of Siargao goes:

9. I was actually guilty of the crime, but it is because my Facebook is linked to my Twitter account in a way that what I post on one goes to the other. Thus, the hashtag on Facebook.

Now, though, I can hashtag all I want on Facebook because the beloved social networking site has just released “Hashtags on Facebook.”

Here’s part of the article on the Facebook Newsroom dated June 12, 2013:

Starting today, hashtags will be clickable on Facebook. Similar to other services like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest, hashtags on Facebook allow you to add context to a post or indicate that it is part of a larger discussion. When you click on a hashtag in Facebook, you'll see a feed of what other people and Pages are saying about that event or topic.

Now you can:

• Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #NBAFinals.
• Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.
• Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results.

As always, you control the audience for your posts, including those with hashtags.

Hashtags are just the first step to help people more easily discover what others are saying about a specific topic and participate in public conversations. We'll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world's conversations.

Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
noelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12031132637736891257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280368937963890121.post-43404146500918669452013-06-14T13:46:00.001+08:002013-06-14T13:46:38.147+08:00Philippines by Ferns Tosco feat Sly Kane (Video)
Interesting vocals.
