Sleep in a Box

I was browsing the net for baby cribs (for Princess) when I came across these pictures:

Sleep Box!

It has wi-fi, plugs for charging electronics, TV, and ventilation system, plus the bed linen is changed automatically! These "boxes" are rental units designed for public places like bus terminals, train stations, and airports.

It is said to be currently being constructed in a Dubai airport.

Aside from the double-decker, there's also a Sleep Box designed for single person only.

Watch the CGI below:

Imagine if we have these in our bus terminals and train stations. Motels would have lesser patrons. LoL!

Who's Next?

This morning, news about the the magnitude 7.0 earquake in Japan's Ryukyu Islands has spread. Now, an even greater magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile is dominating the internet.

The Chile earthquake is said to be 64 times greater than the one that hit Haiti. I can't imagine the damage.

I'm sure I'm not alone in fearing for safety. Wherever you are in the world, I'm sure you are asking the same question as I am asking now: "Who's next?"

So there's a fault that runs in almost the whole of the Philippines. How can I rest tonight knowing that an earthquake can easily hit us?

There are some earthquake safety tips on the net, please read them. And please let us all pray.

Meanwhile, if you wanna see the disaster the earthquake has left Chile, you can watch it on UStream here. It's in Spanish, though.

Glee Gets Gayer

Guess who's guesting in our favorite show Glee. It's our favorite gay guy Neil Patrick Harris! E! Online reports that he has already signed a contract to do a guest spot later this spring and he's playing a villain!

Can't wait. It was earlier reported that Molly Shannon will join the hit tv series. Now how much fun-ner it would be now that Neil Patrick will also be on the show?

Why Don't You Love Me? is a song off of the album Here Lies Love, a collaboration between David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim.

Imelda Marcos is so pretty in that photo used in the video above, no?

Anyway, Here Lies Love is all about the life of the former first lady and her childhood servant Estrella Cumpas. Aside from Cyndi and Tori, other artists in the album are Steve Earle, Nicole Atkins, Sia, Martha Wainwright, Santigold, St Vincent, Florence Welch, etc.

Kellan Lutz - "Adopt, Don't Buy"

Twilight hottie and Calvin Klein X Underwear model, Kellan Lutz, is the newest celebrity to appear in a PETA ad together with his dog Kola.

Kellan tells us to never buy a pet especially from pet stores. Animals in pet shops usually come from "puppy mills" where their living conditions are not so good. Imagine dogs living in "cramped, filthy, and unhealthy conditions" and lack veterinary care.

By not patronizing pet stores, we're also putting a stop to puppy mills.

There are lots of dogs/cats needing home. Just adopt one. Never buy.

A Lady Gaga Scarecrow

Lady Gaga is so fabulous that she doesn't just inspire doll-lovers but farmers as well.

This look inspired farmer Nigel Britten who was getting tired of pigeons eating his wheat crops. He says he and his fiancee were laughing at Lady Gaga's outfit and talking about how scary it looked during the Brit Awards. Marti, the fiancee, joked that he should make a scarecrow like that, and it occured to him that perhaps that might be just what he needed.

And was it effective? Look! There's not a pigeon in sight!
Read more about it here.

Smoking is Like Forced Oral Sex

These French anti-smoking ads say that smoking is being a slave to tobacco and compares it to being a slave to someone you are forced to give oral sex to...?

Yea I agree, these ads are a bit extreme. Two more images here.

[StarStruck] Congratulations Sarah and Steven

I wasn't able to blog about StarStruck V's finale last Sunday because I wasn't feeling so well that day I didn't even watch the show. I had it recorded, though, and watched it Monday. But of course, with all the buzz on the net, I already knew who won even before I got to watch it.

I was surprised by the male winner. Okay, Steven Silva is cute. But heck, the boy couldn't even act during their acting test. He could sing and dance naman so perhaps he'd be made to do just that for the meantime. Oh but wait! I already saw him as a nurse in The Last Prince even before he was proclaimed the winner!

I don't mean to sound bitter, but I was just so surprised. I thought the battle was between Rocco Nacino and Enzo Pineda but I should have known when they announced the total number of past votes the remaining contestants gathered when they were still 6 in the competition. Steven, correct me if I'm wrong, gathered the most number of fan votes from week 1 up to that stage.

Steven naman is cute. And I guess, with the right Tagalog training, he'd be a good actor. Let's just pray that he won't be another Mike Tan who won the title but never really shone.

As with the female winner, Sarah Lahbati was fine. I also wouldn't have any problem if Diva Montelaba won because they're two of my bets. Diva naman looks old beyond her age. She needs more make-over. I think it's her eyes that makes her look old.

But I really think Diva will shine - brighter than her skin tone (kidding). Then Rocco would be eventually made into a sexy actor, while Enzo would be the matinee idol.

The runners-up were interviewed live by Chika Minute's Pia Guanio earlier in 24 Oras. Notice how old Diva looks.

What I like about this Tattoo is that I can call and text thru my netbook! Ang sarap magtext using a computer.

We Have More To Tell

They still remember Lino Brocka's Macho Dancer, eh? Real masterpiece. But what I don't like about it is that they think every Filipino gay-themed movie is all about the macho dancers.

But with the coming of Daybreak, Heavenly Touch, and No Way Out on DVD, at least they'd know there’s more to our gay films than just macho dancers.

Here's the After Elton's short take regarding Filipino gay movies:

Water Bearer Films releases three new gay love stories from the Phillipines—shockingly, none of them are about the "macho dancers" who seem to be the subject of every Filipino gay movie (or at least all the ones that make it to the US) made since Lino Brocka's breakthrough feature of the same name.

Daybreak deals with two lovers who must decide whether or not to break up; a fisherman follows his lover to the big city in No Way Out, and both must fight to avoid getting caught up in the international sex trade; and the masseurs at Heavenly Touch rebel against the mobsters who own the spa and use it as a cover for illegal activities.

P.S.
Mali spelling ng Philippines. Haaayyy...

Suri Cruise Channels Blair Waldorf

Has Suri Cruise been looking up to Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf for her fashion style?

The three-year-old daughter of Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is perhaps the youngest person to be a paparazzi favorite. She's always been so cute in her little dresses and matching shoes and bags... plus hairbands! Very Blair, right?

Of Pink Shoes and Tiara

Nica of Animal House texted me this afternoon saying she already had some shoes that would fit Princess. Good thing one of my "assistants" didn't go to school, so I was able to go to the mall early.

Nica had two pairs(?) and the above pic was the one I bought for Princess. Like I'm now so fond of my black Converse, it would be fun if she wore pink Coverse-y shoes when we’re together.

This was the shoes I didn't get. So colorful I found it baduy. At the back is pink one.

And oi! I also found a little tiara for her. Look how cute it was on her. I just don't know why there's a burst of white on the top right and bottom left pictures.

I was also looking for an extra battery for my netbook (I wanna be ready for the brownouts) but Asianic said those were only available at IBM. I don't believe Asianic, though. I'm sure Bam would know where to buy one.

I was out for only 1.5 hours and look what I hoarded:

Not much but what more if I spend the whole day at the mall? Naaa, my limited money could only take as much. Heh!

Watch: "We are the World 25 for Haiti" MV

25 years after We are the World was first recorded, another tragedy paved the way for the said 80's hit to be recorded again.

Big stars like Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Barbara Streisand, Josh Groban, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, Janet Jackson, etc. It was quite touching how they inserted Michael Jackson's part from the original video. It actually gave me goosebumps.

But there's nothing more pure than the voice of a child, the reason why I almost cried when Justin Bieber opened the song with his crystal clear, angelic voice.

We are the World 25 for Haiti was recorded February 1, 2010 at the Henson Recording Studios (formerly A&M Recording Studios) where the original We are the World was recorded 25 years ago.

No More Lola Glasses

So I've had this lola glasses (as my good friend Bans called it) since like 1992. There were times that it gets forgotten inside my bag (the reason for the many scratches because it has no case) as I sometimes opt for contact lenses especially during hot days.

The frame was given to me by my sister. It was actually a pair of sunglasses bought in Hong Kong. And I was like digging Jessica Zafra so much during those days (and up to now) so I used it as eyeglasses.

It had been with me through the toughest times. Parang gusto ko na lang i-Mighty Bond. Ang hirap i-let go.

Right now, I'm wearing disposable contacts. Extra work but I have no choice. Besides, the weather's so hot I guess I'd prefer contacts na rin even if my eyeglasses weren't broken.

But I still need glasses especially at night cuz I like reading before sleeping, and I remove my contacts before bed.

Now I have this smaller frame I have kept for a long time in the drawer. I haven't decided, though, if I should use this or just look for a bigger one just like my old eyeglasses.

[PBB Double Up] Melisa Cantiveros Wins!

21-year-old Melisa Cantiveros from General Santos City was Pinoy Big Brother Double Up's Big Winner. She got a total of 1,226,695 text votes or 32.08% of the total number of votes.

After 5 months of staying inside the PBB House, viewers got to love Melai's funny ways. Her typical story of coming from a poor family also captured the hearts of the show's audience.

Her prizes include a million pesos and a house and lot among others.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Cebuano businessman, Paul Jake Castillo won as the 2nd Big Placer. He got a total of 1,044,295 text votes or 27.31% of the total number of votes.

It can be noted that when the show revealed the Big 5's vote standing early this week, Paul Jake was the front-runner. Melisa was then running 2nd. The "reveal" most probably motivated Melisa's fans to vote more for her.

Garnering 954,961 text votes or 24.97% of the total number of votes, 22-year-old Boy Astig of Mindoro Jason Veron Francisco was the 3rd Big Placer.

Johan Morielle Santos, 22, was the Fourth Big Placer with just a little more votes than Tibo. He got 303,751 text votes or 7.94% of the total number of votes.

Fifth Big Placer was 34-year-old Steve "Tibo" Jumalon, who got a total of 294,161 text votes or 7.69% of the total number of votes.

Watch: "The Last Airbender" Trailer

I first saw Aang on TV5 one afternoon while I was surfing the tube. I instantly liked the show and fell in love, until they stopped after a few episodes and re-ran it from the start. I tried watching it on Nick but I kinda lost track due to busy scheds.

Then the trailer came out and I got excited all over again. JP (one of my movie buddies) and I nearly screamed when we saw the familiar bald head of Aang during the intermission when we watched 2012.

Now summer 2010 is almost here (can't you tell by the heat?) and with summer comes The Last Avatar! It's definitely a must-see (along with Alice in Wonderland).

Noah Ringer plays the role of Aang. But I'm more excited about Twilight's vampire hottie Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) who plays Sokka in this movie. Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire is also in the cast.

Synopsis:
Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aang's struggle to survive.

We were watching PBB Double Up and Boy Abunda was interviewing Johan when my mother suddenly said, "Mayabang pala 'yan, 'no?"

Not only mayabang, trying hard pa. Mariel is really more deserving. But oh well, at least we're now sure that Johan won't win.

I like the Melason loveteam but my heart goes to Paul Jake. I hope he wins.

Alexander McQueen, Dead at 40

British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was discovered dead today after taking his own life.

The industry was left reeling after the 40-year-old's suicide this morning, which comes just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.

It is also just three years since his close friend, style guru Isabella Blow - who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star - killed herself.

McQueen, who was christened Lee but used his middle name as a designer, was found at his luxury flat in Mayfair, central London. It is believed he hanged himself.

One of his lines, McQ, was due to be shown at New York Fashion Week this afternoon but the show has now been cancelled.

Police were called to the designer's £640,000 flat at 10.20am this morning after he was found dead. A private ambulance arrived to take away his body at 4.30pm.

Not long before it was taken away, a man with short blond hair who looked distraught and said he was McQueen's boyfriend, went inside.

Undertakers brought out the designer's body on a stretcher, covered in a maroon blanket.

The blond man came outside and waited, watching the door. He wiped tears from his eyes as he spoke on his mobile phone.

There were also tearful scenes at the designer's company headquarters in Farringdon, where staff were overcome with emotion.

A security guard said: ‘This is a very difficult day.'

In a statement, the company said: 'On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.

'At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family.

'Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.'

McQueen, CBE and four time winner of the British Designer of the Year award, was very close to his mother, a genealogist, and had taken her death last week very badly.

Posts on his Twitter page in recent days reveal that he had been battling to cope with his grief.

On February 3rd, he wrote: 'I'm letting my followers know my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx...'

Moments later, he added: 'But life must go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Then on Sunday, he said: 'Sunday evening been a ****ing awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together and finish with the HELLS ANGLES & PROLIFIC DEAMONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

He appeared to have recovered slightly by this week. His final message, posted on Tuesday, said: 'I'm here with my girl annie tinkerbell wishing kerry the **** happy birthday in NY, your 40 now girl time to slow it down we think.'

However, posts before his mother died also hint that he was having troubles. On February 1st, he wrote: 'From heaven to hell and back again, life is a funny thing. beauty can come from the most strangest of places even the most disgusting places.'

His mother had interviewed him for a newspaper in 2004 and asked him: 'What is your most terrifying fear?', to which he replied: 'Dying before you.' She said: 'Thank you, son.'

Two police officers were outside the entrance to his flat, which is in a six-storey red-brick building, this afternoon.

Scotland Yard said police were called to the property by the London Ambulance Service at 10.20am after reports a man had been found dead.

A police statement said: 'Next of kin have been informed, however we await formal identification. A post mortem will be scheduled in due course, an inquest will open and adjourn in due course. The death is being treated as non suspicious.'

Born in the East End and the son of a taxi driver, McQueen started as an apprentice at in Savile Row at the age of 16, where he made suits for Prince Charles.

He was famously first discovered as a designer in the 90s by Isabella Blow, the style guru and fashion director of Tatler, who killed herself in May 2007 by taking weed killer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

She bought all the clothes he made for his graduate show for £5,000. They were delivered to her in black binliners.

With his ultra-short hair and Doc Marten boots and his penchant for shock tactics in his early catwalk shows, he was initially the 'enfant terrible' of the fashion world.

There was a stir when he was made head designer at Givenchy in 1996, succeeding John Galliano.

He later joined forces with Gucci, who bought 51 per cent of his company.

His hugely successful career brought him numerous awards, including British designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003 and the International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. He received an CBE in 2003.

Openly gay, McQueen once described himself as the 'pink sheep of the family'.

He once said: 'I was sure of myself and my sexuality and I've got nothing to hide. I went straight from my mother's womb onto the gay parade.'

He married his partner, film-maker George Forsyth in 2000 on a yacht owned by the prince of Gambia in Ibiza. Close friend Kate Moss was a bridesmaid.

But, according to an interview with the New York Times last February, he was single again and had started seeing a porn star - identified only by 'his porn nom de famille Mr Stag'.

Within minutes of the Mail breaking the news of his death this afternoon, Twitter was awash with thousands of stunned posts.

Leading lights of the fashion world also began to pay tribute, led by Moss.

A statement released on her behalf said: 'Kate is shocked and devastated at the tragic loss of her dear friend Lee McQueen. Her thoughts are with his family at this sad time.'

Alexandra Shulman, editor of Vogue, said: 'Lee McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs.

'At one level, he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashion shows that mixed design, technology and performance and on another he was a modern-day genius whose gothic aesthetic was adopted by women the world over. His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't.'

Sue Whiteley his former CEO at McQueen said: 'This is devastating news. He was an unforgettable part of my life. He was a talent who was beyond others. People who worked with him would give 100 per cent and more because he was totally inspiring. This is an unimaginable loss for the fashion world.

'He was able to bring creativity to whatever he turns his hand to, from perfume bottles to every piece of clothing. It is a dark, dark day to hear this news. he was a British icon in fashion whose loss is unimaginable.'

Designer Katherine Hamnett said: 'He was a genius. What a terrible, tragic waste.'

Dolce & Gabbana said: 'We are deeply touched for the sudden death of Alexander McQueen, a designer whom we have always admired for his creative genius and unmatched inspiration. He leaves the fashion world with an unfillable void.'

Designer Matthew Williamson said: 'I am shocked and deeply saddened by McQueen's death. He was a genius and his talent was second to none. Like many others, I always cited him as a hugely inspirational leader of world fashion. He will be greatly missed.'

Victoria Beckham, who is frequently photographed wearing McQueen designs, said: 'McQueen was a master of fashion, creative genius and an inspiration.

'Today the fashion industry has lost a true great. An icon of all time. He made all he touched beautiful and will be desperately missed.

'My heart is very much with his family and friends at this very sad time.'

Jo Wood also spoke of her devastation after hearing news of McQueen's passing on Sky News today, unable to prevent the tears streaming down her face.

A spokesman for the magazine publisher Conde Nast described the news as 'so sad' and said the company was 'quite devastated'.

The British Fashion Council said: 'We are deeply saddened at the news of Alexander McQueen's untimely death. He was a unique talent and one of the world's greatest designers. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time.'

Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw added: 'Alexander McQueen made an outstanding contribution to British fashion. His extraordinary talent and creativity mean that his designs are adored not just by followers of haute couture but lovers of great style everywhere. This is a great loss to one of Britain's most successful industries and to the design world more widely.'

Fashion consultant Alice Smith, who arrived at McQueen's home with a bunch of flowers today, said: 'I have known Alexander since his first collection. He was a lovely man and the best fashion designer in the world.

'No one can beat him, no one will ever be as good as him. He was a charming man but also quite fragile.'

The designer was the youngest of six children.

He left school at 16 and went to work at Savile Row’s Anderson & Sheppard, whose clients included Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev, after he saw a television program about the apprentice shortage in traditional tailoring.

He went on to work for Gieves & Hawkes, theatre’s famous Angels & Bermans costumiers, and then worked in Japan and Italy.

He returned to London in 1994, hoping to work as a pattern cutter tutor at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins fashion school.

Thanks to the strength of his portfolio, he was persuaded to enrol in the course himself.

After graduating McQueen set up his own label based in the East End of London and it was then that he was spotted by Blow.

McQueen was forced to deny rumours of a rift between the pair at the time of her death, saying: ‘It’s so much b******s. These people just don’t know what they’re talking about. They don’t know me. They don’t know my relationship with Isabella. It’s complete bull****.

'People can talk; you can ask her sisters.… That part of the industry, they should stay away from my life, or mine and Isabella’s life. What I had with Isabella was completely disassociated from fashion, beyond fashion.’

He was so distraught at her suicide that he dedicated his spring summer 2008 show at Paris fashion week to his late friend.

The invites to the show were poster-size illustrations Richard Gray. It depicts a triumphant Blow, in a McQueen dress and a Philip Treacy headdress, in a horse-drawn carriage ascending to heaven.

Miss Blow had said: 'My relationship with McQueen began in 1994, when I went to a Saint Martins graduate show. I couldn't get a seat, so I sat on the stairs and I was just watching, when I suddenly thought: I really like those clothes, they are amazing. It was his first collection.

‘It was the tailoring and the movement which initially drew me to them. I tried to get hold of him and I kept calling his mother, but he was on holiday.

She kept saying: 'He's not here, he's not here.' She told him: 'This crazy person is trying to get hold of you.' I eventually got to meet him and I decided to buy the collection: I bought one thing a month and paid him £100 a week. He'd bring an outfit in a bin liner, I'd look at it and then he'd come to the cashpoint with me.’

Offensive Billboards

"Nakatikim ka na ba ng kinse anyos?" says the tagline of one of the billboards we see on the streets.

This particular billboard didn't go through the approval of the Advertising Standards Council, the body that screens advertising materials in the country. That, and a Lubricat ad featuring a sexy starlet, is such a sore eye to some that one father aired his complaint in one of the more popular AM radio show. His concern was not really the traffic hazard these billboards may cause, but of the impact it may have in the mind of his child.

Another billboard of concern was that of a Bench underwear ad featuring Jake Cuenca. But that isn't going away, because as the agency who made the ad says, it was approved by the council.

"Alam naman ng tao, alam ng kahit sino, kung papaano ginagamit ang brief, 'di ba?" says one election lawyer, pertaining to the Jake Cuenca billboard.

Ad Standards Council's job, though, is only to monitor these ads. They don't have the power to take down these billboards no matter how offensive they may be. DPWH, on the other hand, is in the process of making guidelines that will give ASC the power to take down offensive billboards that didn't go through their approval.

Jinkee Pacquiao is now in L.A. to join husband Manny Pacquiao in time for Valentine's Day. Jinkee says Manny is gonna have a Valentine Fans' Day in L.A. and she's there to help out, afterwhich they would have dinner together.

Jinkee also reveals that she has brought with her a especially-made necklace with a diamond-studded letter "M" for a pendant that is to be her Valentine gift to Manny. But before that, she has a "pasalubong" to her husband - a tabloid containing "tsismis" about the boxing champ.

And about the talks surfacing that Krista has met up with Manny in LA, Jinkee says she and her husband just laugh it off. But still, Manny is threatening to file a case against those making up these tsismis. Likewise, Jinkee is daring them to show proof of these rumors.

Missing Her Hair?

If you watched StarStruck V Live last Sunday, you'd know that Princess Snell sported a long hair via hair extensions. Does that mean she didn't like her short hair that was one of the results of her StarStruck make-over?

Let's Watch Alice in Wonderland!

I'm quite excited to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. First, because Alice is one of my favorite fictional characters as a kid. Second, because Anne Hathaway is so beautiful as the White Queen. And third, because I love Johnny Depp.

I first wrote that it's showing April 5th. But no, it's gonna begin showing March 3rd pala. It varies on where you are. But the Philippines is not on the list. I'm sure though that it will be around the date of its US showing.

Molly Shannon to Join "Glee"

SNL veteran Molly Shannon, is joining the cast of my favorite show, Glee, to be Sue Sylvester's nemesis! Sounds exciting, right? Now Sue has a match!

Molly's first episode will be shown in May. Her character, Brenda Castle, is an astronomy teacher and a badminton coach. But not only that, Brenda is also an alcoholic and a pill-popper!

Now, imagine what riot she'd bring at McKinley High School.
