Suki Card

I went to Mercury Drug last Tuesday night to buy Princess's antibiotics (her WBC has gone up from 17.8 to 20 despite taking Vibravet for 2 weeks).

I got the prescription at Animal House in SM and I could have easily purchased from Watsons but I chose to walk to the other side of Bicutan for Mercury Drug because I have a Suki Card.

The line was so long. I was customer number 42 when I arrived and they were still just serving the 8th. Then a male customer gave up waiting and gave me his number (34) instead. But it was still a long wait that I totally forgot about my Suki Card when it was my turn. And the pharmacist didn't even ask me for it. I only remembered about the card when I was already on the jeepney going home.

So the long walk and the long wait went to waste.

And Yet Again…

After the Nokia I lost at the Pulp Summer Slam last April, and the Cherry Mobile I lost at Mt. Romelo last August

This post is a tribute to my Nokia 2220, bought April 18, 2010, lost last Sunday either at Mini Stop or at the taxi on our way home from the vet.

Thing was, the SIM card inserted was the PLDT LandLine +. So for the 2nd time around, I lost the PLDT SIM (here’s the first time). I had to report it immediately cuz I might be charged with calls I didn’t make.

I noticed the phone gone when I needed to call someone for my allergies. So instead of getting help for my allergies, I called the Landline + hotline to report the lost SIM.

Monday, after sleeping four hours (since we got home from the hospital around 3 in the morning), Angel and I left the house at 8 AM. It’s my third rabies vaccine and Angel’s second pre-exposure rabies vaccine at RITM. But before heading to RITM, we first went to my sister’s house to get the authorization letter and affidavit of loss she prepared before leaving (her eldest had a track competition) which I had to get notarized. Our PLDT line is in her name so the affidavit of loss should be in her name as well.

As recommended by my sister, we first went to a law office near their subdivision. She’s a regular client and they know her there. She was right. They immediately recognized her name. But unluckily for me, they said they need my sister’s presence to have her affidavit notarized. I didn’t argue. I knew it’s the right way to do it.

My sister texted us another address near the Las Piñas City Hall. It’s a small office, mainly for notarization. The secretary (quite fondly) remembered my sister, got the three copies of affidavit from us, gave it to the lawyer, asked for 50 pesos, and it’s done.

Falling in line at the PLDT South Mall office was another sad experience. The line was so long we spent almost 2 hours to have the SIM replaced. My hands were already cold from hunger and my back and chest itchy from the previous night’s allergy.

We had time to catch a quick lunch before heading to our vaccines at RITM. After the vaccine, though, the replacement SIM issued to us still wouldn’t work. That was like 3 hours after it was issued. During the first time, the SIM was already working the minute it was issued. And for that, we had to go back to SM South Mall to have it checked. Another waiting in line.

Finally, around 6 PM, I was told they’re having an error in their system, and my SIM would be activated as soon as possible. It got activated only this afternoon.

Now I don’t know if I could live without a phone. But I guess I can try.

Connect Me, Please

It’s such a headache when PLDT’s MyDSL service is down.

First, I can’t blog. Blogging has been one of my favorite past times as of late (read: the past three years). It’s through this that I can express myself in such ways that I can’t in other medium.

Second, I can’t access my feeds and alerts. I can’t stay up-to-date on current events and on topics that interest me most.

Third, I can’t connect with my Facebook friends; can’t even tell them that I don’t have internet connection because I don’t have internet connection (redundundant?).

Fourth, and most importantly, I have lesser income. My gaming shop can’t have that much clients if I have no internet connection.

Wish I could afford to have a spare connection.

Word of the day: connection

As I write this, I am already 27 minutes on the phone, waiting for a 172 operator to take my call. I’m typing this in an offline blog editor and will publish as soon as the internet connection gets back.

Your call is important to us. Our representatives are assisting other calls at the moment. Please stay on the line until a representative becomes available to take your call.”

P.S.

Operator Allan answered my call after a little more waiting. He says PLDT is having a nationwide network problem.

So I’m not alone. Hurray! I hate it more when I’m the only one who doesn’t have internet connection.

Another Phone Lost

The first time I lost a phone was when the hippest was still Nokia 5110. Bought it for 7k with a Globe SIM that cost Php900.

Cell phone signals then (of either Smart or Globe) sucked. I would go by the front door of the shop to get a decent signal whenever I wanted to text/call. One time I accidentally left it on a table by the door when a client called me for something. It was gone when I finally remembered I left it there.

The next one was a less-than-3-month-old Nokia 6260. It was so cool back then. 18k. It was on my desk while I was doing some paper works.

I just noticed it was gone when I needed to text someone.

That fateful day, I decided to never buy a cell phone that exceeded 4k.

So I bought a Nokia 3100 and liked it.

But just like the previous ones, it got stolen. But this time I knew who took it. I never told anyone about it, though, because he's a friend. I didn’t even confront him. I valued our friendship more than the phone. But I don’t hear from him anymore. Baka nakonsensya.

So I bought another one. A Nokia 1680.

It, too, was taken from my pocket last Saturday night on our way out of the Pulp. I felt sad. Not because of the phone (sanay na ako and it's on buy 1 take 1 now at SM) but because of two things: 1. Because my PLDT Landline Plus SIM was there. Not inserted but I always put it on top of the battery before I put on the cover. The thief might use it to call long distance, much worse, overseas. I couldn't have it terminated at once because it was past midnight when I arrived home and come 12, you cannot talk to any 171 operator anymore. Come Sunday, I learned that you can't block the SIM by calling an operator. I needed to go to a business office, present a notarized affidavit of loss and ask for a replacement SIM. Can't unsubscribe from it because it has a 2-year lock-in period.

My sister volunteered to do it herself cuz after all, it's her name on the PLDT account. If I'd be the one to go there, I'd still need an authorization letter plus another affidavit stating that she has married and is now using a different surname. Such work.

But I'm sad because she's so busy as today is the first day of construction of their apartment building in Las Pinas. Not to mention her husband is in the country which makes her doubly busy.

They're currently in Southmall now. She said she'd drop by the PLDT office there after having lunch.

2. That phone was the reason of my happiness for the past week. Yea actually exactly a week Saturday night.

Perhaps the Lord has realized I'm overly happy that it's bad?

I cannot live without a phone, though. So I bought one yesterday. The cheapest Nokia I could find.

I called Gerald to go with me to the mall. I was so sad (and still am) that I couldn't bear going alone.

I promise to take a good care of this new phone. Cheap as it may be, it's still hard-earned money. And I've had enough cell phones stolen already.

But then I'm still sad. "Things" haven't come back to normal yet since I lost the phone.

PS
I called my Landline Plus yesterday and a kid answered. I asked to speak to (my name) but he/she said "wrong calling." I took that as a "wrong number" and I said sorry.

No More Lola Glasses

So I've had this lola glasses (as my good friend Bans called it) since like 1992. There were times that it gets forgotten inside my bag (the reason for the many scratches because it has no case) as I sometimes opt for contact lenses especially during hot days.

The frame was given to me by my sister. It was actually a pair of sunglasses bought in Hong Kong. And I was like digging Jessica Zafra so much during those days (and up to now) so I used it as eyeglasses.

It had been with me through the toughest times. Parang gusto ko na lang i-Mighty Bond. Ang hirap i-let go.

Right now, I'm wearing disposable contacts. Extra work but I have no choice. Besides, the weather's so hot I guess I'd prefer contacts na rin even if my eyeglasses weren't broken.

But I still need glasses especially at night cuz I like reading before sleeping, and I remove my contacts before bed.

Now I have this smaller frame I have kept for a long time in the drawer. I haven't decided, though, if I should use this or just look for a bigger one just like my old eyeglasses.

Should I Throw?

As part of my tidying up for 2010, I emptied by bags, threw all unnecessary receipts, and came realize that I had so much money (at least not as much as I expected) stuck in those bags.

But look, I'm Php160.00 poorer.

Which led to an additional New Year's Resolution of counting and checking all the money given to me as change wherever.

One should always watch her steps (literally) when she's wearing high heels.

I can imagine what could have happened if she fell forward. She'd bounce. Goodness, they're so big!

Drunk Driving?

We know the first thought that came to the forklift operator while still under all those vodka: "How the hell am I gonna pay for these?" The damage reportedly costs $250,000.

Anyway, the operator is was not harmed.

How's Your Sunday?

My Sundays are usually uneventful. I try to rest and pamper myself just to prep me up for another week.

But yesterday wasn't the case. It started so early when I found myself staring at my old CPU that I haven't used for quite some time now. My eyes then wandered to a bunch of old video cards, a mobo, and some old hard disks. I'm a gamer and I've accumulated those through years of experimenting mostly on video cards.

After cleaning the CPU with an air pump (for the airbed I used to have) outside the house (it was so full of dust, I'm telling you, especially the PSU), I tested the video cards. I put them one by one in the AGP slot (it's that old I know) to see if it would give some display on the monitor. I found an old FX 5500 still running. It's 512 MB so it would be just okay for some java websites. I was planning to give the CPU to my nephew so he could have an extra (he's also a gamer).

All the hard disks were fine (they were 2 pcs 20 GB, 2 pcs 40 GB, and 1 80 GB - all serial) so I replaced the 20 GB that was installed to the 80 GB. At that point, with all the hard disks, I was planning to just use it myself and download all the American television shows that I like. LOL!

But then while installing Windows XP, the PSU burnt out. It won't start now. And it's a Thermaltake. Ohgawd...

It's so pricey I don't think I would like to buy a replacement.

It was almost 4 pm when the PSU gave up on me. At least I still have a few more hours to yoga.

Talk about a productive Sunday turned useless.

Effing Printer

I spent a good portion of my morning working around my dirty (look at the dust) printer. I needed to print something but my printer gave back a "paper jam" error message. There was no paper jam. And the printer was so noisy the cartridge kept sliding to and fro. I did everything from restarting my computer to unplugging the printer cables (power and usb) to no avail.

I almost gave up. I was thinking of either having it repaired or buying a new one with CIS technology. I was browsing online for printer prices when I heard the familiar sound of an "okay" printer. That sound it makes when you've just plugged it in; like it was preparing itself for some good printing. I crouched under my desk (yes it's under, in an improvised shelf under the keyboard) to look at it. The light was not blinking anymore. Sheesh! Was I happy.

And then I realized I haven't had breakfast yet. I started working with the printer 7:30 am. It repaired itself 10:45 am. Sigh.

Anyway, it's an HP Deskjet D2460, and it has been my slave for 2 years now. Not bad to let it rest already but I'm thankful it's still okay.

I don't really wanna spend on anything if I can help it.
