Don't Faint Just Yet

They all look hungry, don't you think? Especially the girl second to the left.

But then I think Philippines has a chance. She's actually leading in most of the independent polls even in other countries. She's also one of the most photographed among the 89 candidates. There's also a bigger chance for her because a Pinay in the judges' panel. I'm not saying Lea Salonga should be biased, though. All I'm saying is that who would best appreciate a contestant in an international pageant like this than someone from her own race?

I could imagine tabloid headlines would Shamcey win. They'd say she only got the title because there's a Filipino in the judges panel. But, of course, that's just wishful thinking... for now.

Here's Shamcey Supsup's national costume:

Looking like a winner, no?

Nicollete Henson to Represent Philippines in Ms. Universe

Official statement of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. regarding the replacement of crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Ma. Venus Raj:

“Today, March 29, 2010, Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc., (BPCI) decided, with a heavy heart to let Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 Ma. Venus Raj go, after the organization discovered inconsistencies contained in her birth records, in contrast to her personal accounts of her birth.”

Venus will be replaced by 2nd runner-up Helen Nicollete Henson.

I wonder why not the 1st runner-up? Isn't she the next in line? Oh well.

Krissa Mae for the Win!

Krissa Mae(lower left), that talented girl we first saw in Gobingo is trying her luck in this year's Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant.

Which title do you think fits her most? Bb. Pilipinas-World, no?

Miss Gibraltar is Miss World 2009

Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino was crowned Miss World 2009 in the pageant held recently (December 12th) in Johannesburg. She also won the Beach Beauty Fast Track event and was one of the judges' favorites.

Ms. Philippines Marie-Ann Umali didn't even make it to the Top 16. As always, our Bb. Pilipinas batch seems to lack international appeal. Only Melody Gersbach, a German mestiza, made it to the Top 15 of the Miss International pageant held last month in China.

It's Not All Positive Thinking

Melody Gersbach was said to be a crowd-favorite at the recently held Miss International 2009 at the Tennis International hotel in Chengdu, China, on November 28.

Melody also got in the Top 15, so it's not shameful anymore. I remember her being so positive in her interview that she'd be the next Lara Quigaman. But oh well, at least she got into the Top 15.

Miss Mexico Anagabriela Espinoza Marroquin won the crown. She's one of the early favorites along with Miss Venezuela and Miss Philippines.

The runners-up, though, were not Venezuela and Philippines, but Miss Korea Eun Mi Seo (1st runner-up) and Miss United Kingdom Chloe Beth Morgan (2nd runner-up).

Before Miss International, Anagabriela represented Mexico at the 2008 Miss World pageant. She won the pageant's fast track event, the Miss World Beach Beauty, thereby securing her a slot in the Top 10.
