Siargao ranks 9th in “World’s 50 Best Surf Spots”
Siargao Island is number 9 in CNN Travel’s “World’s 50 Best Surf Spots.” Siargao was picked because of its Cloud 9 waves which was described as dramatic and powerful. A Cloud 9 is the best known surfing wave particular to Siargao. It has a worldwide reputation for its thick, hollow tubes. The wave was discovered by travelling surfers in late 80s, and was named after the popular chocolate bar. It became famous in 1993 when American photographer John S. Callahan published the first major feature of Siargao in the US-based Surfer magazine. The CNN Travel description of Siargao goes: 9.
